Training Academies of Every Service
The academy each Civil Services Examination service trains at, as the service's own official pages name it, with what those pages say about the training and a link to each.
On this page4 sections
Every service you can join through the Civil Services Examination has its own training, usually at an academy run by the ministry or department that controls the service. Most officers first spend some weeks together at the Foundation Course, then split up for their service's professional training. This page lists each service in the CSE 2026 notice with the academy its own official page names, and what that page says about the training.
Where no official page we read names an academy for direct recruits, the table says so rather than guess.
Where training starts: the Foundation Course
The Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie runs a 14-week Foundation Course for officer trainees of the All India Services (the IAS, the IPS and the Indian Forest Service), the Indian Foreign Service and the Central Group 'A' services. It usually runs from September to December. LBSNAA says that some 650 or more trainees attend it each year, at LBSNAA and at partner institutions. Several academies below describe their own course as starting after it.

Through a separate examination: the Indian Forest Service
The Indian Forest Service is filled through its own examination, which shares the Civil Services prelims. Its officers train at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun for 20 months: 13 months at the Academy, 4 months of on-the-job training in the cadre and 3 more months at the Academy. See Indian Forest Service (IFoS).
What to take from this
- Training is long. For most services it runs well beyond the Foundation Course, and probation usually lasts two years.
- Location follows the service. Your academy can be in Hyderabad, Nagpur, Shimla, Pune, Palasamudram or elsewhere, depending on the service you are allotted.
- Each academy has its own rules. Final examinations, marks and the effect on seniority differ from service to service, so read the pages linked above for the service you want.
