Which services did your rank reach?

DoPT's lists use these short names only. We matched them to the services named in the CSE 2026 notice (group and grade left out) and, for IRTS, IRAS, IRPS, RPF and IRS (C&CE), which appear only in the CSE 2019 list, to the CSE 2019 notice.

A service is listed for a year when at least one candidate of your category, ranked at your rank or further down the list, was allotted it. General means the unreserved vacancies. Candidates with a benchmark disability are not counted: they are allotted against vacancies reserved for them. Your own allotment would also depend on your preferences, your medical status and the vacancies of that year, so this shows past lists, not a forecast.

How the explorer works

  • For each year from CSE 2019 to 2024, it reads the Government's rank-wise service allocation list, published by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), using the latest version of each year's list.
  • A service is shown for a year if at least one candidate of your category, at your rank or further down the list, was allotted it. The number after each service is the last rank in your category that service went to.
  • General covers the unreserved vacancies, including those that went to reserved-category candidates on their own merit. Candidates with a benchmark disability are left out, because they are allotted against vacancies reserved for them.
  • Candidates added later from UPSC's reserve list have no rank in DoPT's list, so they are not counted.

Reading your result

Say you enter rank 440 in the OBC category. For CSE 2024 the list includes “IAS · 447”: the last OBC candidate allotted the IAS that year was rank 447, a little further down the list than you. Enter 450 instead and the IAS drops out of CSE 2024, because no OBC candidate ranked 450 or lower got it. Services with larger numbers went further down the list.

If a year shows no service, no candidate of your category at that rank or lower was allotted one in that year's list. The explorer then shows the last rank at which your category was allotted any service that year. For General, that is the last rank at which an unreserved vacancy was filled.

What it can't tell you

  • Your own allotment. It depends on your order of preferences, the vacancies of your year and what the candidates ranked above you choose. A candidate at the same rank who listed services differently could get a different one.
  • Medical and document checks. Some services have physical standards, and DoPT's lists change between iterations as candidates are cleared.
  • The future. Vacancies change every year: for the IPS, the final-result notices reported 150 vacancies for CSE 2025 and 147 for CSE 2024. Past lists show the range, not next year's line.

For the last IAS, IFS and IPS ranks in a single table, and how service allocation works, read UPSC rank-wise service allocation. What each service does is in other services through UPSC CSE, and the totals behind the ranks are on UPSC topper marks and the final cut-off page.

Frequently asked questions

Does the explorer tell me which service I will get?

No. It shows what happened in past lists. Your own service depends on your preferences, the vacancies of your year and the choices of the candidates ranked above you.

Why does a General rank of 500 show no service?

Because in none of these years did an unreserved vacancy go that far down the list: General candidates are recommended only down to the General final cut-off. The explorer shows instead the last rank at which an unreserved vacancy was filled that year.

Where do the numbers come from?

From the Department of Personnel and Training's rank-wise service allocation lists, the latest iteration for each year from CSE 2019 to CSE 2024. The service allocation guide explains how they were read.
